George Orwell’s “1984”

George Orwell’s “1984”-(July 13 to 30) Stunning adaptation of Orwell’s classic which is as timely and provocative as ever in its themes of fascism and dictatorship. In this adaptation of Orwell’s dystopia, the surveillance state is everywhere. The Party subtly controls all aspects of its citizens’ lives, from the “news” they consume to the “history” they are taught to the very way they think and believe. In the midst of this society of lies and half-truths, one man remembers his childhood, a childhood without the Party, without the fear, the lies and the omnipresent spying. These memories lead this man, Winston Smith, to rebel against Big Brother and to search for something more than just a bare existence. The play includes multimedia, film, and projections to create a world that isn’t that far removed from our own. Held at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center-Gala Opening / Media Night: July 15, 2017; Runs Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 pm, Sundays at 2 pm; Tickets: $39 adults, $19 students and industry; Tickets available at www.ccpompano.org or by calling 954-839-9578
