“Christmas in July” Continues-Serving the Homeless Children in Broward-Kiwanis Division 23-“Christmas in July” was “born” in 2001 when the Kiwanis Division 23 Lt. Governor, Dr. Celia Earle, performed research on the plight of homeless children in Broward County and discovered that there were hundreds of the County’s students who could not list a home address because they were in shelters, not including the homeless children under the age of five. Their number one need was underwear, followed by shoes and then clothing. In the past 17 years, this event has served 17,000 children. This year there are currently 4,200 homeless children in the school system, which is a record. Kiwanis contacts the shelters and get the sizes of each and every homeless child in order to personalize each gift package with new items only. This event serves children of all ages (newborn to age 18.) Please donate items or a check, if you prefer, made to: “Christmas in July.” You can sponsor a child for as low as$20:  click here: www.ChristmasInJulyInc.com Donations may be dropped off at Kraeer-Becker in Deerfield Beach or we will be happy to pick up at a location convenient for you.
