February 1-Seven Cantors to Perform “From Bimah to Broadway” Concert

Congregation B’nai Israel of Boca Raton is hosting a spiritual and musical celebratory weekend in honor of Cantor David Muchnick’s upcoming Installation. A special concert at 7pm which feature guest Cantors from all over the country flying to South Florida to sing! Cantor David Muchnick is renowned for his spirited vocals and piano playing and will be officially installed as Senior Cantor of CBI by Rabbi Silvers, Rabbi Keller, Rabbi Cohen and Cantor Steven Weiss, immediate past president of The American Conference of Cantors, during the Friday evening Shabbat service. The Saturday night concert will feature seven talented cantors and musicians from across the country each accompanied by the extraordinary pianist Dr. Alan Mason. Although each cantor has their own pulpits, many of them have concertized together at previous concerts and come together to perform some of Cantor Muchnick’s favorite musical selections. The evening of inspiration and joy encompassing both Jewish tradition and Broadway melodies promises to take attendees on a musical journey from bimah to Broadway. February 1- Swept Away by Ballet Palm Beach

A Mixed Repertory Program Featuring Romance, Glamour and Tragedy- 7:30pm at the Rinker Playhouse at the Kravis Center

The show opens with excerpts from Romeo and Juliet. In Renaissance Italy, the Montagues and the Capulets are embroiled in a long-standing feud. All matters become tragically complicated when a young Romeo and beautiful Juliet fall in love. The romantic and dramatic scenes feature exciting sword fights and soaring pas de deux, guided by Prokofiev’s score.

Next on the bill is The List, by former Alvin Ailey dancer and acclaimed choreographer, Christopher Huggins. This short, powerful tale is set in 1942 Poland amid the throes of the Holocaust. In Huggins’ words, it is a “haunting glimpse into the lives of a Jewish family — from their kitchen table to their end.” Due to the mature subject matter and tragic elements, The List may not be suitable for young children.

Concluding the mixed bill, Swept Away is a fun and glamorous collection of dances, inspired by classic musicals from the 1940’s, 50’s, and 60’s. Powerhouse Cast Takes the Stage at The Wick Theater in Fan Favorite Pick

Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice’s astonishing hit; the story of Eva Peron’s life and loves and her climb to power from a life of poverty. The Wick Theatre in Boca Raton is proud to present their fan favorite pick of the year, Evita. The production features Broadway star Sean McDermott and American’s Got Talent sensation Daniella Mass in the iconic musical. The astonishing Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice mega-hit won multiple Tony Awards including Best Musical 1980 and Best Revival 2012. Daniella Mass performed at The Wick with Nestor Torres a couple of seasons ago. She has sung with legends like Jose Carreras and Andrea Boccelli, with a soaring Coloratura Soprano that has garnered her a world-wide fan base. Broadway star Sean McDermott plays Juan Peron who performed at The Wick as the Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance. His dazzling Broadway career includes lead roles in Miss Saigon, Falsettos, Chicago, Grease and more. Kimberly Wick is designing the set and Marilynn Wick and her team are creating the costumes. Evita charts the young and ambitious Eva Peron’s meteoric rise to power. Now until February 9-“Gridiron Glory: The Best Of the Pro Football Hall Of Fame”-How do you get 100 years worth of NFL memorabilia to Miami? Try six semi-trucks. That’s what it took to haul more than 200 artifacts and items to the History Miami Museum for this latest exhibit; The exhibit arrives ahead of Super Bowl LIV, which will be played Feb. 2 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. It’s the culmination of the NFL’s 100th season. Walking through the collection at HistoryMiami (101 W Flagler St.) is like taking an interactive tour of football history. There are 8,000-square feet of photographs, vintage jerseys, helmets, and interactive displays. The coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy is also on display in a “Champions Theater,” where announcers shout “Touchdown!” to the roar of crowds from video monitors. “Gridiron Glory” comes from the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, with the HistoryMiami Museum providing additional items about the Miami Dolphins. A “Hometown Heroes” section celebrates the Dolphins and athletes who played in South Florida during high school and college. It traces the history of African American players all the way back to the pre-NFL period of 1892-1919, when there were only four of them. By the 1970s, black players comprised more than 20 percent of the league’s labor force and then 70 percent by 2002, according to the panel. The exhibit looks back at the evolution of the sport, from the early days of helmets that were made with thin pieces of leather to the high-tech plastic that protects players today. One case features Dan Marino’s Dolphins jersey from the 1998 season. Next to it is a signed football from the Oct. 17, 1999 game where he became the first NFL quarterback to throw over 60,000 yards. The exhibit also recognizes Jason Taylor and displays his No. 99 jersey and helmet from the 2006 season, when he was named NFL Defensive Player Of The Year.The same area also celebrates the 10 Super Bowl games that Miami has hosted.
