December 2-Book Festival Guest: Ina Garten, Modern Comfort Food, in Conversation with Michael Ian Black, Comedian, Actor, and Author

7:30pm-Join Ina Garten as she dishes up some delicious conversation with comedian and author Michael Ian Black. The two will discuss Ina’s latest book, Modern Comfort Food: A Barefoot Contessa Cookbook, which features a collection of all-new soul-satisfying dishes from America’s favorite home cook! In it, she shares 85 new recipes, many inspired by childhood favorites—but with the volume turned way up, such as Cheddar and Chutney Grilled Cheese sandwiches (the perfect match for Ina’s Creamy Tomato Bisque), Smashed Hamburgers with Caramelized Onions, and the crispiest hash browns that are actually made in a waffle iron! Home cooks can always count on Ina’s dependable, easy-to-follow instructions, with lots of side notes for cooking and entertaining—it’s like having Ina right there beside you, helping you all the way. Ina Garten is a New York Times bestselling author and the James Beard Award-winning host of Barefoot Contessa, which has won three Emmy Awards and airs on the Food Network. She lives in East Hampton, New York, with her husband, Jeffrey. This is her twelfth book.

Michael Ian Black is a comedian, actor, and writer. He is the author of several books for children, including the award-winning, I’m Bored, I’m Sad, and I’m Worried. His books for adults include the memoirs, You’re Not Doing It Right, Navel Gazing, and the new, A Better Man: A (Mostly Serious) Letter to My Son. As a stand-up comedian, Michael regularly tours the country, and he has released several comedy albums. He lives in Connecticut with his wife and two children.

The 58th annual Christmas on Las Olas celebration in downtown Fort Lauderdale with its signature blocks-long, five-hour street party for thousands of carolers and cocktailers is not happening. due to COVID.  But its organizers are making the best of it, and beginning TONIGHT Las Olas Boulevard will be decked in socially distanced holiday spirit, light shows, a Santa sighting and, of course, a cocktail special. The 12 Days of Christmas on Las Olas is the title of this year’s celebration, which will space out the holiday revelry and attendant crowds.  Opening night tonight will begin at 6 p.m. with Santa addressing the crowd from a balcony just west of the Tommy Bahama store, across from American Social, near the popular intersection of Las Olas Boulevard and Southeast Eighth Avenue. The street will remain open to traffic during the 12 Days.  After Santa’s greeting, a five-minute light show will be projected on surrounding buildings, continuing every 30 minutes from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each night. The 12 Days will feature a variety of daily activities, including an elf hunt among Las Olas businesses. Get the day’s clue in the lobby of the Riverside Hotel, locate the elf and return it to the front desk to collect a bag of local-merchant swag. Businesses on the boulevard will be offering dinner and drink specials, and other unique discounts, during the 12 Days.  A performance space near Southeast Ninth Avenue will host a rotating lineup of entertainment, including dance companies, live music and a pet costume contest.
