December 3- ‘Symphonia of HeARTs-’ A Virtual Performance and Art Auction 

7pm-FREE Virtual Event Featuring Musical Performances and Silent and Live Auctions to Support South Florida Artists and Businesses. The Symphonia, South Florida’s premier chamber music orchestra, has partnered with regional artists, local galleries and area businesses to create ‘Symphonia of HeARTs,’ a virtual performance and art auction event. Honorary Chairs for the event are Harvey and Virginia Kimmel. The orchestra also offers a free after-school program, and Building a String Orchestra and Self-Esteem, that benefits kids from the Boys and Girls Club of Delray Beach. Over 80 items will be available during the virtual fundraiser, including works by internationally known artists and local artists, trips, dinners and jewelry. Local favorites, Yaacov Heller of Gallery 22 and Sal Principe of The Gallery Lounge, will each have multiple artworks available during the evening’s auction. The free, online event will feature performances by the orchestra’s talented musicians; a live, fine art auction facilitated by well-known auctioneer, Janice Hamilton; and a chance to [virtually] meet some of the featured artists. A silent auction will remain live through the conclusion of the December 3 event. Proceeds from the auctions will help keep the heart of The Symphonia – its educational programs, community outreach and, of course, its music – beating, while highlighting and benefiting local artists. A Master’s Collection including works by Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Marc Chagall, Joan Miro and Peter Max, as well as many contemporary artists, will also be available for purchase. Local artists have contributed items for the silent and/or live auctions. The OUTshine December Festival will be called the “Fort Lauderdale Virtual Edition” and includes a special Drive-In Movie Night at Pier 66 in Fort Lauderdale on December 4. Festival Program and Ticket Packages go live/on-sale on November 13. This festival will include 18 brand new feature films, 2 winner repeats from August, 2 throwback films plus 3 shorts programs; ALL films will be released together at midnight on December 3. December 3 to January 3-“Where the Boys Are,” A 60th Anniversary Film Photo Exhibition

At The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale-Presented by History Fort Lauderdale; Come view this month long retrospective featuring 40 curated historical and never-before-seen oversized images chronicling the making of and local star-studded premiere (December 21, 1960) of the landmark film that cemented the City of Fort Lauderdale as a worldwide Spring Break destination. Some photos were captured on the actual site of the Galleria, then an open-air shopping center called the Sunrise Center.  The walk-through exhibit will be available for the public to view near Swarovski.

1960 American CinemaScope comedy directed by Henry Levin, via a variety of slice-of-life and candid on-set images enlarged for detail. These include captures of local resident and actress Connie Francis (who sang the film’s memorable title theme), as well as stars Dolores Hart, Paula Prentiss, George Hamilton, Yvette Mimieux, Jim Hutton, and Frank Gorshin.  Many photos feature local South Florida extras and regional film crew who were called-upon to star and work on the film.  (In compliance with local and state health guidelines, visitors to History Fort Lauderdale’s “Where the Boys Are” 60th anniversary exhibition at The Galleria, will be required to wear a mask and practice safe social distancing of six feet apart.) Gather up the family and head to Rosemary Square any night of the week, and you’ll enjoy nightly holiday snowfalls on the plaza from now through December 31.  Schedule for Holiday Snowfalls:  The nightly holiday snowfalls will take place at 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. daily from November 14, 2020 through December 31, 2020.

 

 

December 3 to 12- The 12 Days of Christmas on Las Olas

The 58th annual Christmas on Las Olas celebration in downtown Fort Lauderdale with its signature blocks-long, five-hour street party for thousands of carolers and cocktailers is not happening. due to COVID.  But its organizers are making the best of it, and beginning TONIGHT Las Olas Boulevard will be decked in socially distanced holiday spirit, light shows, a Santa sighting and, of course, a cocktail special. The 12 Days of Christmas on Las Olas is the title of this year’s celebration, which will space out the holiday revelry and attendant crowds.  Opening night tonight will begin at 6 p.m. with Santa addressing the crowd from a balcony just west of the Tommy Bahama store, across from American Social, near the popular intersection of Las Olas Boulevard and Southeast Eighth Avenue. The street will remain open to traffic during the 12 Days.  After Santa’s greeting, a five-minute light show will be projected on surrounding buildings, continuing every 30 minutes from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each night. The 12 Days will feature a variety of daily activities, including an elf hunt among Las Olas businesses. Get the day’s clue in the lobby of the Riverside Hotel, locate the elf and return it to the front desk to collect a bag of local-merchant swag. Businesses on the boulevard will be offering dinner and drink specials, and other unique discounts, during the 12 Days.  A performance space near Southeast Ninth Avenue will host a rotating lineup of entertainment, including dance companies, live music and a pet costume contest.
