January 1-FREE Jazz Festival at the Riverwalk in Fort Lauderdale

10 am to 2 pm. Music in 3 areas along the Riverwalk which is by the Broward Center and across the street from the Museum of Discovery & Science (listed on map quest at 401 SW 2nd Street, Ft Lauderdale, FL 33312)-The band plays from 11:00am until 2:00pm and most start arriving around 10:15. Dress is VERY casual.  There is also a singles group that meets there (organized by “Becky” who notes her area with a single red balloon near the rental bikes.) She organizes a ‘pot luck ‘ brunch, meaning everyone brings a food or drink to share. there is parking in the garage next to the Discovery Museum for $12 while prices vary among the lots along 2nd street. The City Garage is always $5. Expect ranges between $5 and $10. There are meters along 2nd street but you’ll need to get there around 9:30a to get one. The later you arrive, the further away you have to park or the more expensive parking will be. If you plan on lingering, bring a chair or blanket to sit on and some bottled water, especially if the weather is hot.

January 1-Tribute to Michael Bublé

Rome Saladino’s tribute show to Michael Bublé, Feelin’ Good, has recently gotten huge attention; Rome sings in the style of the Grammy award- winning crooner accompanied by an amazing band and beautiful dancers! The show focuses on the incredible music that Michael Bublé has brought back and made popular and sexy again, as well as highlights of Rome’s own world-wide theatrical and film experiences. Rome’s varied career includes starring in Broadway Musicals, regionally and all of over the world, such as: A Chorus Line, Annie, Brigadoon, Camelot, Fiddler on the Roof, Godspell, My Fair Lady, On The Town, Pippin, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and West Side Story. He has also starred in the Broadway revue, Encore! The American Musical in Tokyo Disney in Japan, as well as touring the world on several cruise ships. The world premiere of Art of the Hollywood Backdrop features original, full-sized matte painting backdrops used in Hollywood’s Golden Age in films like “Singin’ in the Rain,” “The Sound of Music,” “North by Northwest,” and “Ben-Hur.”  Long guarded by the major studios as special effect secrets, these monumental illusions will transport viewers into cinematic history and reveal the breathtaking technical painting and drawing virtuosity of artists creating specifically for the camera’s eye. With 22 scenic backdrops, this exhibition honors the unsung artists who created these monumental canvases for Hollywood films, going back almost 100 years.
