June 26 to August 2“Rockin’: The Story of Rock ‘n Roll”– Free Photo Exhibit in Pembroke Pines: includes more than 17 images with some striking photos of South Florida’s  concert scene and rock legends from years ago at the Hollywood Sportatorium, the Sunrise Musical Theater and Pirate’s World; photographer: Larry Singer, now age 70, filmed some backstage shots in the 1970’s and 1980’s, including a 1981 Rolling Stones concert at Orlando’s Tangerine Bowl with concert opener Van Halen.  The show banned photography but Singer had taped a camera lens to his back and stuffed film rolls into his underwear.  During this concert, Singer captured Eddie Van Halen striking a midair pose one second after he leaped off his brother Alex’s drum riser. That image is now on permanent display at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The show features more than 100 photos, paintings and sculptures by 16 artists including Ken Davidoff, a photojournalist who captured Janis Joplin, Mick Jagger, John Lee Holler and other at he 1968 Miami Pop Festival.

Also on exhibit, a tribute to the influential rockers who died at age 27, a 1979 dress rehearsal photo of the Bee Gees, and Gloria Estefan performing with the Miami Sound Machine members.
