Comic Cure’s Comedy Careers is the workshop series that offers direct access to comedy professionals in a moderated Q&A format. Guests include professional comedians, writers, club bookers, agents and managers. Attendees can submit questions in advance or during the LIVE show. Hosted by Richy Leis, Comic Cure, Creative Director. Full length archived workshops will be available to attendees. Tonight, August 12, features Joel Pace. Joel was born, raised and continues to reside in Charlotte, NC. His start in the comedy business began in 1991 when a friend invited him to see a hypnotist show at The Comedy Zone. The club had two shows that evening and the host never showed up. While waiting for the second show to begin at the karaoke bar next door, a server he knew from high school asked if he would step in and host that evening. (His singing and acting skills are legendary.) With an offer of $50 and an open bar tab, Joel took the gig. From karaoke host to barback, bartender, assistant manager, and general manager, Joel climbed the comedy ladder until he reached the rungs of the corporate office – booking agent and eventually club owner. Comedy is Joel’s life and he prides himself on his leadership within the industry. Along with his partners, Brian Heffron and Leonard Kure, the three have grown The Comedy Zone into the largest comedy booking agency in the country and a trusted brand. Joel is an avid Pittsburgh sports fan – Go Steelers, Pirates & Pens! (Also, come back tomorrow, Thursday, August 13, for the comedy of Jill Michele Melean.)
