June 5-The 5th Annual Charity Fishing Tournament

Place of Hope’s 5th Annual KDW Fish for Hope Fishing Tournament is a unique, fun, and laid back, yet competitive fundraising event bringing together over 300 people to support the mission of Place of Hope. They will kick off this weekend tournament with their Captain’s Meeting Friday night, followed by a day out fishing off of Florida’s coast, and end with a great awards dinner at Sailfish Marina. Guests will enjoy exciting raffles, auction items, and giveaways. This Fishing Tournament will help us raise critical funds supporting the daily needs of their foster children, homeless youth, families in transition, and human trafficking survivors. June 5-“Festival of Classics” Live Stream Performance at GableStage

2pm-GableStage at the Biltmore-A group of classic-minded companies in the performing arts that have been holding impromptu appearances of Shakespeare in South Florida announce their latest incarnation, “Festival of Classics,” a livestream event from GableStage in Coral Gables. The event features professional actors and recent graduates and students from Miami-Dade County’s prominent universities. The producing directors from Shakespeare Troupe Incorporated, Grace Arts Center, the Joseph Papp Yiddish Theatre and What If Works will assemble casts from their companies and from Florida International University, Miami-Dade College along with recent graduates from the University of Miami Theatre Arts Department to perform scenes from Shakespeare and modern classics in a celebration of their mission to provide a bridge from academia to professional life in theater and to cultivate an appreciation for the classics among new audiences. The Festival will be staged and live streamed in association with GableStage, a well-established venue for performance located at the renowned Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables. “Festival of Classics” will be recorded live at GableStage and streamed to an online audience from social media platforms Facebook and YouTube via the participating companies’ channels.  Livestreaming will begin at 1:55 pm on June 5, 2021, for a 2 o’clock start and will run for approximately 90 minutes as performers exit and enter the stage and enact short scenes and speeches from the classics. Selections from Twelfth Night, The Merchant of Venice, Hamlet, The Taming of the Shrew and The Diary of Anne Frank and more are to be performed. An edited video recording date for broadcast will be announced by Clare Vickery of Grace Arts Center. Calaveras Cantina, opening Spring ’21 – This Mexican restaurant was supposed to open in early 2020, in the spot where Junior’s Restaurant was in Mizner Park. It’s now planned for this spring. The other location is in Jupiter.

Strike 10 Bowling, opening Summer ’21 – It’s not an eatery, but it will have food, and was supposed to open in 2020. Strike 10 Bowling Alley is moving into the former Uncle Julio’s spot with full lanes and a few mini lanes. The Strike 10 Bowling location at Gulfstream Park offers a hookah lounge, billiards, a sports bar and more.

American Social, opening Fall ’21 – With restaurants in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Tampa and Orlando, this casual sports bar is planning to open in Boca Raton in fall 2021.
