The Taras Oceanographic Foundation invites people of all ages from Palm Beach County to create works of visual art (paintings, sculptures, and short films) that explore the threat and impact of plastic pollution on dolphins in their natural habitat. We will have three categories: students from age 5 to 10 and 11-18, and adults. The winner of each category will receive two (2) free tickets to a dolphin expedition with Palm Beach and Jupiter Dolphin Tours, and will have the opportunity to participate in the Foundation’s conservation campaigns. All participants will receive a small gift as a token of appreciation of their participation. All artwork needs to be submitted via email (please send to harzen@taras.org) no later than June 15. Delray Playhouse’s Playhouse Playwrights’ Project is now extending submissions for its second year of staged readings of new plays. Local playwrights (Palm Beach and Broward County residents) are asked to submit an unpublished, one-act play for consideration by the Playhouse’s play reading committee. Deadline for submissions is now extended to July 31. Auditions will be held in August, rehearsals will be held over the summer, and the performance weekend is September 12 and 13. The Blind Monk Restaurant and Wine Bar in West Palm Beach– a new casual bar with a wine and craft-beer focus-Ben Lubin, a former U.S. Marine, decided to venture into the hospitality business with this small spot on Evernia Street that debuted last August. The food menu is sparse but traditionally wine-friendly-One special each week will be featured;The eatery’s name honors Don Perignon, who was, in real life, a blind monk so an alcohol connoisseur’s menu features more than 90 wines by the glass, and 300-plus bottles on the list, representing every wine-growing region around the globe.
