                                          Hanukah Begins

Pearl Harbor Day: is observed annually in the U.S. on December 7, to remember and honor the 2,403 Americans who were killed in the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7, 1941, which led to the United States declaring war on Japan the next day and thus entering World War II.

Hanukah-is an 8 day Jewish festival that starts tonight at sundown and ends at sundown on December 15. It marks the miraculous victory of the Maccabees, Jewish freedom fighters, over the Greek occupiers in the year 139 BCE. It is celebrated by lighting candelabras (menorahs), children’s games (dreidel), eating potato pancakes (latkes) and giving gifts each day.

This tried-and-true veteran, located in the atrium of the Seeman Holtz Building, has a well-appointed dance floor to accompany its three-course lunch ($25 per person) and dinner ($39 per person). For lunch, sample the ricotta-and-parmesan-stuffed eggplant rollatini topped with marinara as the appetizer, the shrimp pappardelle porcini or chicken Milanese with greens and aged balsamic glaze for the main, and double-chocolate mousse cake for dessert. For dinner, begin with clams oreganata, and for entrees choose between duck a l’ orange or grilled veal chop porcini. Finish with house made tiramisu.

December 7 to 10-The Palm Beach Food & Wine Festival

For the first time in its history, the Palm Beach Food & Wine Festival, the county’s biggest culinary feast, will expand south into Boca Raton .  Tickets are now available for the 16th annual celebrity-studded smorgasbord, which includes a Festival Kick-Off Party at The Boca Raton boutique resort on Dec. 8, with acclaimed local chefs Lindsay Autry (The Regional in West Palm Beach), Valerie Chang (Itamae in Miami) and Clay Conley (Buccan in Palm Beach), among others. They’ll join other TV personalities throughout the four-day festival such as Robert Irvine (Food Network’s “Dinner: Impossible”), Maneet Chauhan (Food Network’s “Chopped”), Baltimore pastry chef Duff Goldman (Food Network’s “Ace of Cakes”) and Beau MacMillan (Food Network’s “Guy’s Grocery Games”), along with local tastemakers Daniel Boulud, Timon Balloo, Cindy and Jeremy Bearman, Giorgio Rapicavoli, Michelle Bernstein and Pushkar Marathe.

The push into Boca Raton was due, in part, by overwhelming demand for the festival’s intimate dinners, often selling out so fast that ticket buyers join waitlists and hope someone cancels (last December’s bash sold out its entire festival with four weeks to spare.)  For now, there’s only one event in Boca Raton, but most of the festival’s footprint remains in the town of Palm Beach and in Palm Beach Gardens, with 16 events planned there. Nine others are scheduled in West Palm Beach, Lantana and Manalapan. Tickets cost $50 to $350, with the majority of events spanning the $150 to $250 price range The Grand Tasting finale (Dec. 10) will return to the Palm Beach County Convention Center. The walk-around event will feature bites and drinks from 50 participating restaurants and a Grand Chef Throwdown, in which three local chefs try for a $10,000 charity prize. Effervescent Musical Comedy Features All-Star Cast

The Wick Theatre is hopping back to the 1950s with the high-energy musical Bye Bye Birdie. The winner of four Tony Awards, including Best Musical, is a nostalgic trip featuring catchy songs, energetic dance numbers, and an all-star cast that exudes charisma. The show runs until December 24, 2023, with evening shows on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm, and matinees on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm. But before Uncle Sam gets him, one lucky girl, Kim McAfee, wins a farewell kiss from Conrad on the Ed Sullivan Show. Comical drama follows when Conrad and his entourage visit Kim’s hometown, much to the chagrin of her father and jealous boyfriend. Portraying Conrad Birdie is our own Elvis doppelganger Cole, who had fans swooning during The Wick’s production of Million Dollar Quartet. Broadway star Jeremy Benton returns to our stage after a captivating run in Anything Goes, this time as Birdie’s manager Albert. And fellow Anything Goes alum, Alexandra Van Hasselt brings her stunning voice to the pivotal role of Kim. Leah Sessa who’s dazzled in numerous Wick productions brings her talent to the role of Rosie, Albert’s secretary. And Lourelene Snedeker, star of The Wick’s very first production, The Sound of Music, brings her inimitable style to the role of Mae Peterson and Dalia Aleman, another Wick favorite returns as Mrs. McAfee Making their Wick debuts are Ben Sandomir as Mr. McAfee and Noah Weiss as Randolph McAfee. The epic musical also features an extraordinary ensemble and is directed by the legendary Norb Joerder, with musical direction by the award-winning Bobby Peaco, who returns after last year’s triumphant Cinderella, and choreography is by the multitalented Cat Pagano.
